Pedestal of colossus of Nero, Ancient statue in Rome
The Colossus of Nero was a gigantic bronze statue that stood in Rome.
Originally depicted as Nero himself, the statue was later repurposed to represent the sun god Sol.
Its presence next to the Flavian Amphitheatre is believed to have influenced the amphitheatre's name, the Colosseum.
The exact location and fate of the statue remain a mystery, as it no longer exists.
The Colossus stood approximately 30 meters tall, making it one of the largest statues in ancient times.
