Old Beijing Theme Park, defunct park in Nankou, Changping, Beijing
Welcome to the Old Beijing Miniature Landscape Park, located in the Nankou area of Changping District in Beijing. This tourist attraction is a collection of miniature landscapes and cultural elements that showcase the charm of old Beijing. Unfortunately, it has been closed down. The park was opened on August 18th, 1994 (which sounds like "fa you fa" in Chinese) after less than two years of construction. It was built by a 39-year-old Chinese-American at the foot of the Great Wall in Nankou Town, Beijing. On the opening day, Jiang Kun hosted the ceremony in front of the newly completed main hall. Representatives from various fields, including Li Desheng, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Wan Guoquan, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Li Peiyao, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Ong Ka Ting (later the chairman of the Malaysian Chinese Association), Duan Qiang and Yang Chaoshi, leaders of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, attended the event and gave speeches. Covering an area of 800 acres, the Old Beijing Miniature Landscape Park is located in the center of the Nankou Tourism Development Zone. It was jointly built by the American Stei Group Co., Ltd., Changping Foreign Economic and Trade Group Corporation, and Nankou Town Industrial Group Corporation, with a total investment of $15 million. Zhang Zhenxing was the general manager when it first opened. As Beijing's urban development progressed, the old Beijing style represented by hutongs, courtyards, and city walls quickly disappeared. The Old Beijing Miniature Landscape Park was created as a modern cultural and entertainment area that showcases the scenery, style, and culture of old Beijing. When the Old Beijing Miniature Landscape Park opened, it was during a period when artificial scenic spots were popular in China. The Window of the World in Shenzhen and the World Park in Beijing were both well-known at that time. Although the park is no longer open, visitors can still appreciate the beauty of old Beijing by exploring other attractions in the city, such as the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Temple of Heaven. These sites offer a glimpse into the rich history and culture of Beijing, and are must-see destinations for any tourist visiting the city.
