Badlands National Park, National park in South Dakota.
Badlands National Park is marked by rugged terrain and formations that resemble a science fiction landscape.
Established as a national monument in 1939 before being designated a national park in 1978.
The park preserves the mixed-grass prairie, which is home to bison, bighorn sheep, coyotes, and swift foxes.
Badlands has two campgrounds available for staying overnight—the Cedar Pass Campground and the Sage Creek Campground.
Among the various fossils being uncovered are marine shells and the teeth of ancient three-toed horses.
