Historic Areas of Istanbul, World Heritage Site in Turkey

The Historic Areas of Istanbul is a World Heritage Site located in Istanbul, the capital district of Fatih. The site includes nine incredible buildings and structures; each boasts enormous historical significance and beauty, and they were all added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985. The Sarayburnu marks the historic tip of the old Istanbul peninsula. Along this peninsula, visitors may explore the Topkapı Palace and Hagia Sophia, both of which have been standing for centuries. The Sultan Ahmed Mosque and Hagia Irene are also located here. The Zeyrek Mosque and Süleymaniye Mosque can be found not far away, along with the Little Hagia Sophia, and the Walls of Constantinople. This World Heritage Site includes four zones that illustrate the major phases of the city's history via its most stunning monuments. First, there is the Archaeological Park, defined in 1953 and 1956.
